One Piece: Because We Are All Nakamas

Shiriai janakute,
Tomodachi janakute,
Oretachi wa Family!
Shinseki jankute, kyoudai ja nai
Oretachi wa Family~

Above are some of the lines of the song "Oretachi wa Family" (We Are A Family), a song sung by the Mugiwara (Strawhat) Pirates at the end of TV Specials. Translated in English, it says:

We are not acquaintances
We are not friends
We are a family!
We are not relatives, we are not siblings
We are a family~

Well, how wonderfully contradictory is that? But in my opinion, this song describes exactly the bond between the members of the Strawhat Pirates. They are not simply friends, nor are they only acquaintances: they are a family!

This idea of a group of people coming together to pursue their dreams, and eventually developing strong ties that grows deeper as they go on their voyage, is what primarily drew me in this phenomenal anime. That being said, I grew fond of this crew and their ever-jolly and adventurous captain, Luffy. The crew mates may  appear to be bickering on the outside (*ahem*Sanji and Zoro*ahem*), they got each others' backs in times of crisis. I admire how they really are loyal to their captain, who, in one way or another, saved them and gave them the chance to follow their dreams, set out to the vast ocean, and be part of the "family".

"Kaizoku ou ni ore wa naru!"
